My Plan for District 18

Why Am I Running?

I believe America and progressive cities in North Carolina are headed in the wrong direction. And as the local and state politics go, so goes the nation.  I am stepping forward to do something about it. While I respect my opponent as a person and her years of public service, I believe her legislative record reflects the same progressive policies that have failed families in other parts of the country. District 18  better representation that is focused on improving public safety, lowering taxes and daily costs, economic growth, academic excellence, and protecting freedom—not activism and the government-centered solutions that too often create more problems than they solve.

My Plan for District 18

Safer Communities & Clean Water
Reduce downtown crime by supporting bills that increase pay and support for law enforcement and first responders, while creating innovative education pathways for our youth to choose skills, service, and purpose over drugs and crime—building futures, not rap sheets.

PFAS: Clean water is not a partisan climate issue. It is a public health issue. Clean water should not depend on who occupies the White House. If federal standards are weakened, North Carolina has the authority and responsibility to protect its citizens. I support state-level PFAS standards based on sound science and the principle that polluters—not taxpayers—should bear the cost of cleanup.

Representative Ted Davis helped lead on this issue, getting HB569 passed. It is now in the Senate.  I will seek to learn what’s necessary to get it passed out of Senate.  Wilmington families should not have to choose between economic growth and safe drinking water.

Education Reforms
I’m excited to support Senate Bill 579 for career-focused high school reforms that replace school-to-prison pipelines with school-to-apprenticeship and trade pipelines that connect juniors and seniors to relevant in demand jobs. I’ve already drafted a companion proposal to enhance this bill that explores reforming the middle school experience exposing students to career paths and financial literacy.

Lower Cost of Living
I support common-sense economic policies that attract employers, create jobs, grow wages, and expand the local tax base. Combined with smart infrastructure investments and increased housing supply, these policies help lower housing and daily costs, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for families to build generational wealth.

Healthcare Reforms
I support free market healthcare reforms that decouple insurance from employers and break up corporate monopolies.  That include pathways to purchase portable coverage like auto insurance. This expands the market (e.g. gig workers) and increases competition which lowers premiums.  There will be no progressive pandering or bait-and-switch policies with me as your representative.

How I’ll Lead:

  • Collaborate with any solution driven Republican or Democrat to deliver results.
  • Focus on practical solutions not “gotchas”  to pin-the-tail on your political opponent.
  • Aim to make an impact and deliver progress you can see and feel.
  • Bonus:  I run inspired by the mindset and resilience of my Reconstruction-era Republican ancestors and to deliver results that improve people’s lives–not climb the political ladder to higher office.
